Te Ahurea o Te Kura (Kura Identity)
Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Wānanga Whare Tapere o Takitimu was established in 1994 and officially gazetted in 1996. Our wharekura (secondary component) was gazetted in 2016. We are a natural development of Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Wānanga Whare Tapere o Takitimu. Together with the initiatorof the vision, Te Wānanga Whare Tapere o Takitimu, the Tertiary component, it offers an educational philosophy ‘from the womb to the tomb.’
Our kura is distinctive from mainstream schools because of our philosophies, principles and practices. We are committed to the preservation and maintenance of the Māori language, a tāonga of guaranteed protection under the Crown.
The board of trustees, whānau and kaiako work collectively to provide an education that allows each mokopuna to reach their full potential, socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally. KURA RAUMATI: SUMMER SCHOOL / ARTISTS IN RESIDENCY PROGRAMME
This programme is a two week intense programme for as young as 8 years up to 55+ years.
Participants of this programme will learn the basics of Maori Performing Arts through waiata, haka, poi, nga mahi toi, te reo kori, kori tinana, song & dance, drama, music, production and theatre. On completion of this programme all participants willshowcase a 45-minute theatre performance. Fees apply
